Audience Participation at AIDC
AIDC 2010 encourages delegates to participate actively in the Conference program. The majority of sessions include question time and we've scheduled a few sessions dedicated to Q&A.
This year's Conference will conclude with a special Plenary Session, moderated by Sandy George, Journalist, Screen Daily & Screen International. A broad industry panel will answer questions from the audience on industry policy and the current state of documentary in Australia.
The panel includes:
Stuart Menzies, Head of Documentary - ABC Television
Andrew Ogilvie, Executive Producer - Electric Pictures / SPAA Documentary Councilor
Ruth Cullen, Head of Documentary - AFTRS / ADG Documentary Representative
Jane Roscoe, Channel Scheduler - SBS
Ross Matthews, Head of Production Investment - Screen Australia
Tom Zubrycki, Filmmaker - Jotz Productions
Julie Marlow, Policy Consultant - SPAA
Tania Chambers - Chief Executive - Screen NSW
As a delegate you can ask questions from the floor, email your questions to us prior to the conference or post questions via twitter during the session.
To provide context for the Plenary Session - ADG and SPAA have both identified their main agenda items in regards to documentary production;
Australian Directors Guild:
• The shift in the role of the director- with directors being asked to multi-task, or experienced directors being hired as field producers, the skills and experience they bring to productions are being devalued and fees are often, in effect, being reduced.
• The shift from the Commissioning Editor to the EP model by the broadcasters, and the subsequent impact on the independence of directors.
• The commercial broadcasters getting a licence fee rebate with no content quotas attached to the additional digital channels.
Screen Producers Association of Australia:
• Confirmation that future Screen Australia terms of trade will be in line with its December 2008 version, which allows for producers to recoup pro rata and pari passu according to their total contribution, and to take an equity position in line with their overall contribution, Producer Offset to be included as producer equity participation.
• Introduction of minimum 10% documentary spend quotas on pay TV.
If you wish to email us your questions for the panel, please do so before Tuesday the 23rd of February. Click here.
