Tom Zubrycki Wins the AIDC Stanley Hawes Award

AIDC is pleased to announce the winner of the Stanley Hawes Award, Tom Zubrycki.

Tom’s widely respected documentaries have for the last 25 years mapped Australia’s changing social and political landscape.

Recent films include:-

Temple of Dreams, about a group of young Muslim Australians stuggling to keep open a youth centre in Sydney's west

Molly & Mobarak, about a relationship between a young Afghani refugee and a country school teacher

The Diplomat (AFI’s for Best Documentary and Best Direction, 2000), about former exiled East Timorese leader, Jose Ramos-Horta.

Tom’s latest film The Hungry Tide (in production) is about the impact of climate change on the Pacific nation of Kiribati.

Tom also works as a producer mentoring first-time and emerging filmmakers. Credits include Exile in Sarajevo (1996 International Emmy for Best Documentary), Making Venus, Gulpilil - One Red Blood, The Prodigal Son, The Intervention, and Stolen.

In 2008 he was awarded the Cecil Holmes Award by the Australian Directors Guild. 

Tom will be presented with the AIDC Stanley Hawes Award at the Conference Opening Night Function on 23 February. 

Tom will also deliver the inaugural Stanley Hawes Address, where he will share his experience and passion for the documentary industry.
